Georgia has one of the largest WEPs community in Eastern Europe. UN Women office in Georgia supports WEPs signatories through various programmes and collaborative initiatives to drive positive change in the lives of women.
One notable initiative is the “Empower Her” project of ProCredit Bank, a WEPs signatory, in partnership with the TASO Foundation. Aimed at engaging rural women in the economy, the project uses social mobilization to identify participants, who then receive specialized business training supported by the bank. It envisages training 80 women across Georgia, equipping them with skills to become self-employed, start income-generating activities or grow existing businesses.
The initiative focuses on increasing rural women's participation in business, fostering their confidence, and encouraging a culture of collaboration. “For us, as a banking institution focused on development, European values and inclusiveness, this issue is really a priority.” says Zeinab Lomashvili, Director of ProCredit Bank.
The “Empower Her” project will be implemented under a new Memorandum of Cooperation between ProCredit Bank and UN Women, reinforcing both institutions’ commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment.
