Gender Equality in the Private Sector: An Insight into Mexican Companies
UN Women Mexico and UN Global Compact

The document analyzes the responses of 44 companies that used the WEPs Gender Gap Analysis Tool in Mexico. The report provides guidance to the private sector in a context where the COVID-19 pandemic has posed major challenges for gender equality. The document was produced by UN Women Mexico, in close partnership with the UN Global Compact, the Mexican Council of Businesses, and the Business Coordinating Council.

According to the results presented in the publication, Mexican companies promote gender equality and women's empowerment from the highest level of management with a gender equality strategy that covers the entire organization and identifies specific priority areas where improvements can be made. Mexican companies have policies and mechanisms that help create more inclusive and safe work environments.

The document recommends for companies to provide childcare spaces in the facilities or guarantee access to childcare services, establish policies and protocols to eliminate all forms of violence against women, to implement a gender responsive procurement policy, to eliminate harmful gender stereotypes from all company communications and advertising campaigns, among other actions. In the context of the COVID-19 crisis, companies are recommended to advocate for gender equality in company relations and communications, and to invest in community-level development programs and projects that promote gender equality and women's empowerment, as well as in initiatives that tackle the deepening of gender gaps caused by the COVID-19 crisis.
