1) Ibukun Awosika is the Chairman of First Bank of Nigeria, the first female to be appointed to such position. In Africa, especially in Nigeria, it is very rare to see a woman attain such position, so Ibukun Awosika’s appointment breaks the glass ceiling for so much women who aspire to lead in the financial institutes.
Ibukun Awosika is a an Entrepreneur, Founder and chairman of the Chair Centre Ltd, a market leader in the office furniture and banking security systems industries. She holds a degree in chemistry from the University of Ife. She gain working experience from Akintola William & Co and Alibert Nigeria limted, before setting up her own company, Quebees Ltd, which is now The Chair Centre.
She has gone above and beyond in supporting and raising women entrepreneurs. She co-founded the Afterschool Graduate development centre and is immediate past chairperson of the board of trustees of Women in Management and Business (WIMBIZ). She has done amazingly well, breaking the glass ceiling to reach the peak of her career and business ventures. Being the Chairman of Firstbank is truly inspiring and motivating, because its is well known in Nigeria, that positions like that are for men. So to have a woman get there and is currently performing very well speaks volumes for what other aspiring women leaders can achieve.
